This summer the team here have been turning our collective gaze toward fulfilling grand ambitions – it was time for us to crack on with some compositions for broadcast use and add to our production music portfolio.
RNIB Audio Logo Competition
Following on from our success in being shortlisted as one of four finalists in the RNIB audio logo competition, we have been seeking out new challenges and opportunities to better position what we do creatively. Competitions and awards offer a great way to network and a chance to work to brief, not least the potential of placing well or even winning and having your music shared further afield.
Publisher, Animator, Film Maker? Need Original Music?
Amidst the cut and thrust of audio award ferreting, we are also seeking to establish some lasting professional relationships with a like-minded network of collaborators. Specifically we’re looking to partner with publishers, filmmakers, animators and videographers who might just be looking for a team like ours. We love to get stuck into projects, if you or someone you know falls into these categories and you like what you hear, then please contact the team.
Here are three tracks which we’ve put together which fall under the production music umbrella. We have composed them all with a loose brief in mind and wanted to focus mainly on an atmospheric, emotional narrative; where the various sections could be easily developed into extended beds and adapted pieces of audio.
Wiltshire Singer-songwriter Chris Weston delivers his third EP
Yet another fantastic talent hailing from the South West, Chris Weston is an acoustic singer songwriter performing regularly between Wiltshire and Newquay.
We’ve had the pleasure of recording Chris and original new tracks for his third upcoming EP.
A great musician and singer with a unique delivery and a laid back performance style, it’s not difficult to be charmed by Chris and his music.

Singer-songwriter releases her first studio recorded EP
Living Image have taken great pleasure in working up the latest offerings from Lauren Castle, all of which feature on her recent release entitled ‘Vintage Dress’. Lauren is a fantastic talent and as well as her unique vocal ability, her evocative and imagery rich songwriting style belies one so tender in years.
Due to popular demand, Lauren’s EP is the first step in developing further her musical career. Lauren has been working with Living Image Music to produce an EP that reflects her enthusiastic and friendly stage presence, as well as her ability to craft an intimate, creative performance. The EP includes four tracks, featuring the eponymous title track ‘Vintage Dress’. Additionally, the disc includes original songs ‘Green Coloured Coat’ and ‘Free House, as well as her unique version of David Grey’s ‘Babylon’, all of which proven to be very popular in reviews and on YouTube.
To produce and deliver a set of primarily self-penned songs with such assurance is remarkable enough – to do it at 16 is absolutely outstanding. ‘Green Coloured Coat’ is gem of a track, mature and wistful, with a beautiful melody and varied time signatures, definitively complementing Castle’s delicate but pitch-perfect voice. She needs to get this one in the can right now and resist the temptation to alter it by one note. Huge song and a very fine performance.”

Lauren plays the piano and guitar to accompany her lyrical and catchy original songs. Over the past year Lauren has gained support in sharing her music online, as well as playing at many various venues across the country, including The Fleece (Bristol), The Louisiana (Bristol), CalneFest, Mells Daffodil Festival, Cheese&Grain, Seend Acoustic Club, Running Horse (Swindon)… Lauren also has plans for summer 2014 as she is playing at the ever popular Sidmouth Folk Festival as a contracted young performer.
A rare talent indeed, the team at Living Image hold high expectations for Lauren and her ongoing successes and look forward to working with her again soon.

Over the last couple of years we’ve had the pleasure of working closely with some great local artists, musicians and songwriters creating new music. Here’s a brief lowdown of what we’ve been cooking up for these undiscovered talents, as well as a summary of what to expect from some of them in the near future.
Fabian Belassie
Fabian Belassie is a fantastic singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, a pleasure to work with and all-round thoroughly nice chap. A master of the live performance, Fabian mixes it up with loop pedals and instrumental percussive as well as soaring, layered melodies to create his own one man wall of sound. Neil has worked with Fabian over the past couple of years, working up some rather smashing and altogether eclectic tunes.
Lauren Castle
Lauren Castle is a sublime young singer-songwriter from Wiltshire with a rare, haunting vocal – yet brim full of innocent optimism. She is blazing trails on the heels of other local talent gone stellar such as Gabrielle Aplin. Lauren has an awesome work ethic and has been working with Neil in the hub for the past couple of months on some new (and revisited) material. Expect her latest offerings to go live before the summer is out. ‘Vintage Dress’ EP due to be released in June ‘14.
Jo Deacon
Jo Deacon is an amazing vocalist and recording artist. She is one of those ‘lucky ones’ whose effortless professional singing style is only surpassed by a powerful yet pure vocal tone. She has worked with Neil on several projects but has also teamed up with Living Image more recently on their forthcoming and ‘in progress’ mini series of songs, provisionally dubbed the ‘Dumb Luck EP’, Enjoy Retrograde.
Nick Dale
Nick is a true gentleman, a most intelligent songwriter and wordsmith who has produced two albums at the Living Image HQ over the past couple of years. His songs combine modern observational prose with quirky and innocent production styles which is sure to charm yet disarm the average listener. Drenched in witty references and drawing upon a plethora of classic influences, each song manages to outwit the last whilst remaining complimentary, like mutually respectful professors discussing classic literature. ‘Fortune Road’ provides a fly-on-the-wall perspective on the folly of greed, set against a playful backdrop of stranglers-esque delight. This is pure, insightful songwriting at it’s best.
These short compositions were part of an extended piece that we had put together back in 2013. The music was written for an open pitch requesting submissions for the BBC natural history ‘Wild Mission’ mini-series.
Composing the Music to Footage
The brief outlined which three moods the music was required to evoke. We uncovered some old BBC natural history footage of a hunting tiger that followed the scheme and had space for the various vibe. We then researched the indigenous folk music of tribes and cultures in the Siberia region to get a bead on the sound palettes we wanted to use.
By chance, there also happened to be an old, dusty balalaika in the studio that had been knocking around for years just waiting to be recorded; perfect! With all those rich sonics and instruments in mind we then set about composing the music to the footage, et voila!

Over the past couple of years we have been working with artists and bands and feverishly toiling away on songs, compositions, recordings and well, websites.
